JD Kirk – [Robert Hoon 01-05]
English | eBook | Size: 2.01 GB
The Robert Hoon series by JD Kirk follows foul-mouthed, hard-drinking ex-Detective Superintendent and former soldier Robert “Bob” Hoon as he’s dragged from rock-bottom into increasingly explosive, blackly comic vigilante-style missions across Scotland and beyond. Across the first five books, Hoon goes from aimless, self-destructive burnout to a man with a renewed sense of purpose, repeatedly confronting organized crime, terrorists, and ghosts from his past while leaving a spectacular trail of mayhem.
Below is a brief, spoiler-light synopsis of books 1-5.
Book 1: Northwind
Hoon is washed-up, disgraced, and spending most of his time between a dead-end job and a whisky bottle when an old Special Forces friend asks him to find his missing teenage daughter, whom the police have failed to locate.
The hunt drags Hoon from the Scottish Highlands to London’s underworld, where he uncovers a trafficking operation and realizes the girl’s disappearance is part of a wider pattern involving many victims, giving him a reason to fight again.
Book 2: Southpaw
After rescuing his friend’s daughter, Hoon has enraged a ruthless criminal cabal known as “The Loop,” which kidnaps young women, addicts them to drugs, and forces them into prostitution.
An investigator keen to bring down The Loop sees Hoon’s stubbornness as an asset, pushing him into a direct war with the organisation as they retaliate violently, forcing Hoon to decide how far he is willing to go and whether he can survive their revenge.
Book 3: Westward
Hoon’s earlier clashes leave powerful enemies who now send elite killers after him, turning him from hunter into hunted and forcing him back to his Highland roots.
Facing professional assassins and long-standing grudges on home turf, Hoon relies on his military training, vicious ingenuity, and sheer bloody-mindedness to stay alive while protecting those around him.
Book 4: Eastgate
After a brutal year of being beaten, shot at, blown up, and tortured, Hoon hopes for a quiet, drunken Christmas at home, but a routine trip to an Inverness shopping centre with his sister and an old army colleague is interrupted by heavily armed “Santas” seizing the mall and taking hundreds of hostages.
Trapped inside and initially overlooked by the gunmen, Hoon turns the situation into a one-man, Die Hard-style counterattack, using his wits and brutality to pick off the terrorists while the police can only wait outside, revealing more of his buried loyalty and willingness to sacrifice himself for others.
Book 5: Stateside
The fifth book, Stateside, takes Hoon out of Scotland, thrusting him into an American-set mission that continues his personal war against powerful enemies and the fallout from prior books.
The story keeps the series’ trademark mix of dark humour, savage action, and emotional undercurrents as Hoon confronts new adversaries on foreign soil while still wrestling with his own battered conscience and past.
